MAZAR-DÛM
Mazar-dum was a dwarf kingdom located in the southern Orocarni, far to the east of Mordor. It was the main city of the Stonefoot clan of Dwarves, and was the second-greatest dwarf realm next to Moria.
Mazar-dum was founded by the Stonefoots in the early First Age soon after their awakening. It was delved underground through the mountains themselves. Like all dwarf realms, it had many beautiful and grand halls. The dwarves were among the richest in the world, amassing a great treasure-hoard of gold and jewels. Mazar-dum bisected the mountains from its East Gates to its West Gates, and a traveler could pass from one side to the other in a three-day journey.
The city itself consisted of great structures carved out of the sides of the massive caverns below the Orocarni, crisscrossed by many levels of bridges and staircases. Mazar-dum was among the most beautiful of the dwarf kingdoms, made of the dark jade-green marble that made up the roots of the mountains, and much of this was inlaid with solid gold trappings. The city spaces themselves were illuminated by great burning braziers and by light shafts that allowed sun and moonlight to stream through.
Mazar-dum was close allies with the elves of Casarellon, who built a city outside its gates to trade freely with the mountain's riches. The dwarves were also steadfast in their resistance to Saurons domination in the east, and always aided their kin both from the other Orocarni kingdoms, the Blue Mountains, and the halls of the Longbeards with whom they shared a close friendship.
